Portable device MIST is a multifunctional electromyographic system designed for registration of electrical activity of muscle by means of surface and needle electrodes, for training of paralyzed and weakened muscles by means of biofeedback, for stimulating electrical impulses generation and for apparatus physiotherapy sessions (by means of electrotherapy).

    The system has 4 operating modes:
  • Amplifier mode is designed for muscle activity indication and EMG audio reproduction.
  • In Trainer mode a patient can train muscles by means of biofeedback (biofeedback training).
  • Stimulator mode enables to implement muscle stimulation by single or repetitive current impulses.
  • In Electrotherapy mode physiotherapeutic session by means of stimulating electrical impulses is implemented. In this mode special programs are used.

All these functions are realized in small pocket device supplied from two AA-size batteries or accumulators.

Myograph-stimulator

When injecting muscle relaxants two modes are used Amplifier mode and Stimulator mode.

Amplifier mode is used for analysis of the injection needle accuracy when injection manipulations executing.

The main purpose of the mode is muscle motor points locating and topical detection of muscle targets for injections of muscle relaxants: botulinum toxins (Dysport , Botox ), local analgesic anesthetics (when muscle blockade executing) and anti-inflammatory drugs. Precise injection of the drug in a motor point zone favours the increase of therapeutic effect when lower doses of the drug can be injected.

The device also can be used for quick quantitative analysis of muscle contraction (by means of surface electrodes) in kinesiological diagnostics when motion pattern studies are implemented.

The device is completed with special needles for drug injection in the moment of muscle activity registration. Bioelectrical muscle activity (EMG-activity, myogram) is output to speakers (headphones or portable speakers). A doctor can verify place of injection by specific audio characteristics of the myogram (i.e. the needle point is located exactly in motor point in the area with maximal endplates density).

Stimulator mode enables to implement electrostimulation of the studied muscle. Electric discharges generated by the device evoke action potential and visible muscle contraction and corresponding motor effect (especially in relatively small muscles of face, forearm, hand etc.). Current discharge is applied to the needle point which causes muscle evoked response. Presented technique enables to choose correctly and control function of muscle targets. The next injection takes place after preliminary determination of muscle function. It considerably improves injection accuracy and therapeutic effectiveness of the procedure.

Biofeedback trainer

Biofeedback trainer mode is designed for individual therapeutic sessions of EMG-biofeedback training of paralyzed and weakened muscles (consequences of strokes, cerebral spastic infantile paralysis, nerve trunks and spinal cord injuries, facial neuritis, carriage disorder etc.).

A patient can have training sessions on his own, without a doctor. Before that it is advisable to get special instruction. At the same time the device is a doser of load and a mirror representing real contractions of trained muscles. Important point is that it is possible to detect invisible muscle contractions (when the patient has severe paralysis).

The device doesnt exert any active electric impact on the organism. On the contrary, it is a sensor which detects natural bioelectric muscle activity of the patient. This activity myogram is an equivalent of muscle contraction power.

Controlling it, the patient gets the possibility to train affected muscles in conditions of disturbed physiological connection between the muscle and the brain. Controlling the muscle contraction power, as well as when having therapeutic physical training session, the patient exercises strength abilities of the muscle and creates new reflex connection between paralyzed muscle and affected structure of the nervous system. This principle of getting the additional information about qualitative and quantitative characteristics of trained organ functional activity in real time is called biofeedback.

This method is used for optimal motor stereotype forming when solving problems of carriage correction and during kinesiotherapeutical action.

Electrotherapy

Electrotherapy mode is designed for myostimulation sessions for the purpose of muscle relaxation or activation according to the following programs:

  • Program 1. Relax-stimulation. Developed to relax spastic muscles. Is also used for diagnostic test stimulation, aimed to prevent neuromuscular irritability of affected muscles.
  • Program 2. Synapse stimulation. Used for synaptic apparatus activation of affected muscles with large degree of deviation caused by muscles distress as a result of neuritis or multiple neuritis, rehabilitation period after peripheral nerve traumas, of spine muscles functional overloading in back posture and vertebrogenic deseases.
  • Program 3. Dynamic modulation. Is provided as a program that potentiates predelivery intervention over muscles resistance for therapeutic intervention (long lasting rehabilitation activities, frequent electropathy ets.)
  • Program 4. Tonify program. Serve the purpose to stimulate dystrophic muscles (hyposthenic myoparesis).
  • Program 5. Suprafrequency modulation. Is provided for limb muscle spasticity and shorten muscles reduction. Also is used body posture defection and scoliosis treatment. Such stimulation is advisable before therapeutic exercises.
  • Program 6. Deep stimulation. Helps in stimulating deeper muscles and limb large sized muscles when it is dystrophic or acute paresis.

Delivery set

The system comprises:

  • Myographic analyzer-stimulator;
  • Cable for electromyogram detection and stimulation;
  • Cable for injection control;
  • Headphones with volume control;
  • Surface electrode (3 electrodes);
  • Injection needle;
  • Service instruction;
  • Case.

The cable for electromyogram detection and stimulation is a three-wire cable 1.2 metres long. It has three sockets for electrode connection: blue, red and black colour.

The cable for injection control is a three-wire cable 0.75 metres long. It has two sockets for electrode connection (blue and black colour) and a pin (red colour) for injection needle connection. All electrode sockets are compatible with disposable myographic electrodes.
